WE DID NOT WIN! WE LOST.

The City of Miami Beach Commission plans to impose restrictions and fees on parking in the North Shore (including Biscayne Beach and Park View Islands) and Normandy. The only ones to benefit from the scheme are the predatory towing companies in cahoots with politicians. We OPPOSE restricted parking and punitive controls
If they get their way:
- After one year, everyone will have to pay an annual fee for street parking and tow trucks will be lurking to snatch anyone without a permit.
- If you have one parking spot in your building or driveaway, you wont have the right to street parking at all. Only to a few fee-based visitor passes.
- Those with no in-building parking will qualify for two annual passes for a fee. If there are more cars in your household, you're on your own and may have to get rid of them.
- All residents with proper documentation can BUY additional 24-hr permits for guests, up to an indeterminate number a year. Wave goodbye to your sex life, your caretakers, and your family: the city is rationing them. You will also have to submit the name and license plate of your limited number of visitors to the City, so it can monitor who sets foot in MBeach.
This initiative means that:
- Surveillance of and data extraction from residents and not-properly-documented residents will be insidious
- People will have to pay extra fees in addition to their high rents
- Visitors will be limited as well as impeded (for instance, having to park far away, and you will have to go pick them up).
- Tow trucks will be lurking all the time for their profit.
Lies propagated by lobbying agents:
- That this fends off beach goers. Beach goers leave at dusk.
- That this keeps airbnb clients away. There are barely any in North Shore and Biscayne Point areas. And what's the difference between the one car of the owner or the one car of the subletter? There are STRs across Harding. Most their clients arrive by Uber.
- That this stops those who store their vehicles on the street for weeks on end. Calling Parking Enforcement NOW will stop them right now.
UPDATE: What they are not telling you:
- You would be confined to your subzone (e.g. Biscayne Beach), and therefore banned from parking anywhere else in the neighborhood after 6pm. Whether it rains, you have three little children, you carry packets, or you are simply tired, you won't be able to go visit friends and families beyond your bridge as of 6pm.
- If you are in one of the gated communities, like Normandy Shores, you are zoned out. It means that you will not be able to park anywhere outside your gated compound after 6pm. You will have to go to a garage. Oh but there's none!!
- If you drive a car that is not on your name, you will not be able to park it in your neighborhood. If you drive a commercial vehicle, you will not be able to park it in your neighborhood.
- There is residential parking available already for those willing to pay: those in the North Shore can park in any of the West Lots for $15/month.
- A garage is finally coming on 72nd street, and that should relieve those around the Bandshell. The current lot already allows residents to pay a monthly fee for a guaranteed spot there.
- The City is refusing to enforce existing parking regulations against long-term and commercial vehicles. It is also refusing to implement angle parking as well as return spaces that were removed to plant trees that were then not planted. In other words: the City has engineered a parking crunch in order to (1) unleash the tow trucks on you, and (2) charge you whatever it wants, with as many raises as it wants, from 2025 onwards and forever.
