Missouri: Pregnant Teens Deserve the Right to Choose!
A new bill that passed in Missouri's House of Representatives would force pregnant minors to obtain the consent of both parents before getting an abortion.
Missouri already makes it difficult for girls and woman to end unwanted pregnancies. The state has only one abortion clinic, and forces women to wait 72 hours after counseling to go through with an abortion procedure. HB 1370 would restrict abortion access further, potentially forcing teens to go through with carrying an unwanted pregnancy to term if her parents disapprove of her choice to end it. The current law requires only one parent to consent to the procedure.
Missouri needs to work towards facilitating a woman's right to choose. Further restricting access to abortion would endanger teens by causing them to seek illegal abortions.
