Tell Apple to Hold Itself to Higher Standards!

Apple Inc. is very well known for its electronic products, and has been considered to be a revolutionary company in the industry. Unfortunately, Apple products like iPhones and iPads are made in places such as China with labor practices that would be illegal in the United States.

Many workers are underage -- investigations have found 12, 13, and 14-year-olds working alongside the other 20,000 to 30,000 workers in each factory room. Workers are paid less than $1 an hour, and are forced to work extremely long shifts. The standard shift is 12 hours long, but most go from 14 to 16 hours.

Many workers suffer medical problems from the work -- and when they are unable to work, they are fired. "Troublemakers" like one worker who wanted to be paid overtime, are often put on "black lists" so that companies will know not to hire them. To top it all off, anyone trying to make a union in China will be sent to prison.

Tell Apple that this is unacceptable and to hold itself to higher standards!

Dear Apple Inc.,

Many of your products are made in China, a country where labor practices are implemented that would be illegal in the United States. They are all a gross injustice and violation of human rights, from forcing people to work 16 hour shifts while standing, to paying them less than $1 an hour.

Despite this, Apple continues to produce its products overseas even though it could afford to use more humane labor policies by holding its manufacturers to higher standards or paying them more while still making a large profit.

Please hold Apple to higher standards, so that those that love Apple products can love them even more, knowing that they were made by a company that uses fair labor rules.
