Make Zillow Pay

For years, Zillow has been using Real Estate Agent's and Real Estate Broker's listings for profit while not compensating the Agents or Brokers for providing the listings which are pivotal to Zillow's value and earnings.   Zillow made over $1 billion in 2018.

That money was primarily made by selling buyer leads to real estate agents.

Those buyer leads were generated by real estate listings that were not listed by Zillow.

Zillow then usese Agent's listings to attract potential buyers.

Zillow then sells the potential buyers information to only a select group of Agents who can afford or agree to pay for a Zillow Premier Agent account.  We believe this arrangement is unfair to the vast number of agents who's listings are being used by Zillow but not benefiting from either leads or financial compensation.

We believe Zillow should either, pay real estate brokerages for the the privilege to profit from their listings or quit using the listings without the Broker's express written consent. – period!

Since Zillow provides the platform and the Real Estate Broker provides the content (listings), we believe Zillow should equally share the financial benefit the listings afford.  In short, Zillow should split the revenu's that any given listing generates with the Broker of that listing 50/50.

If Zillow is unwilling to do this or if the Broker does not want Zillow using their listings for advertisement purposes, Zillow should immediately pull the listings from their platform.

We do not believe any relationship with any MLS (Multiple Listing System) should be binding as the Broker and Agent, not the MLS or Zillow, has the signed contract with the seller on any Listing.  Neither Zillow nor any MLS are part of a signed listing agreement.  As a result, it is the Real Estate Broker, not the MLS or Zillow who should have the final authority to where a listing is marketed or published.

In human terms, Zillow didn't do the work it took to get that listing.  Zillow is not the agent putting together a listing presentation.  Zillow is not the agent who is involved in the community and addressing all the questions and concerns a potential Seller may have. So we believe it's not fair that Zillow doesn't share revenue made on listings than an Agent and Broker Originated.

Real Estate Agents!  You busted your butt for your listing and now Zillow gets alone, profits from your hard work.

Did you spend money to get that listing? You bet you did! You paid for marketing, your licensing, your gas, your time, your E&O insurance and much more to get that listing.  Now, Zillow is making Billions off your hard work, your time, and your money, without compensation to you or your Broker.

It's time for the Real Estate community to stand up and say "no more."  Either Zillow compensates Brokers and Agents for their listings or they stop using Agents and Brokers listings.

This makes no sense.  Given the fact that Zillow is now officially buying and selling real estate; competing with the very brokerages and agents who's listings they're using to make millions, if not billions.

This madness needs to stop. Zillow needs to pay for the privilege of profiting from YOUR listing – period!

If you're as outraged as we are at what Zillow is doing and how they're going about it, sign our petition and share it with your peers.

Let's see if we can get the attention of those who can do something about this injustice and get you paid for your hard work.  NAR is quiet on this issue.  MLS's seem complicit. Brokers are so focused on each other that they do not seem to notice the threat Zillow represents to their livelihoods, and individual Agents feel helpless and incapable of having their voices heard.

Now is the chance to have your voice heard.  Let Zillow, your MLS, and your Broker know, this is not OK. It's YOUR listing, NOT Zillows! Make Zillow Pay or Stop!

We will use this petition with your signatures to share with MLS', NAR, Brokers, and Zillow.  We will let your collective voice be known that the status quo is not ok, it's harmful to the Real Estate Industry, and by extension the communities that you live in.

We are advocates of Real Estate Agents and the Clients they have duitfully represented for decades.  We believe that Zillow's exclusionary model, where only a few agents can afford to pay, is unfair and harmful to agents and communities alike.  We believe Zillows model, it left unchecked, will continue to erode "community bases" real estate which ultimately harms home buyers and sellers.

So Zillow needs to embrace the Real Estate Community and acknowledge their hard work by compensating them for their hard earned listings or they stop.
