There are a massive amount of proposals to build new power stations throughout the country. These proposals are being motivated by electric companies & banks such as JP Morgan & Scottish Southern Electric. These organisations are in pursuit of hundreds of millions £'s in government subsidies from the EU. The same companies have also been publicly repremanded for abusive business practices. Local planning guidelines aren't been adhered to and private residents living in towns and cities live close proximity are not being advised of the full facts. Toxic levels of pollutants will be released over some towns & cities who are already failing EU air pollution limits. Westminster is drumming up public support to exit the rule of EU law. The media mainly the BBC is misrepresenting the benefit & protection we all get from the EU.
There is no need for these power plants. The Canadian government wants to stimulate it's flagging forest industry and poorer countries like Brazil will also be encouraged to do a bit of tree-burning. Although the documentation for the Grangemouth site states that trees coming from Brazil will only be coming from Sustainably farmed areas, there cannot be a way to ensure this is the case. Very poor landowners will be seduced into selling the rainforest trees as it is not possible for us to make guarantees of re-planting.
I urge anyone who has time to check their own backs, particularly Local Council Planning departments and make sure things in your town or city are in order as I understand a new inititive of building in our national forests are also being pushed through. Short terms gains for the greedy few is the party mantra.
