A Dog Was Found Tied to Cinder Blocks in a Miami Marina

In October, a boater at a marina in Coconut Grove, Miami, noticed something strange in the clear water. Two paws were sticking up toward the surface. When he looked closer, he saw a dog with two cinder blocks tied to its legs. Marina staff pulled the dog out of the water within minutes. The video of what he found spread across social media and left people horrified.

Sign the petition urging the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office to commit to seeking a lifetime ban on animal ownership and mandatory mental health counseling for whoever is found responsible.

Police have opened an investigation, but they have not said how the dog died, who owned the dog, or who left it there. The boater who found the dog says it was tied with its own leash. Whoever did this to a dog clearly is not in a healthy place, and punishment alone will not fix what led to this.

A lifetime ban on owning or caring for animals would make sure no other dog ever ends up in this person's hands. Mandatory mental health counseling would address what led to this, so that real support and accountability go hand in hand. Deciding now what justice should look like means that when the person responsible is found, there is no question about protecting the next animal.

Whoever tied a dog to cinder blocks and left it in the water should never be trusted with another animal.

Sign the petition and demand the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office pursue a lifetime ban and mandatory counseling for whoever is responsible.
