Don't Abandon Britain's Oceans!

Britain's marine life has been in decline for years due to scallop dredging and prawn trawling in seas surrounding the British isles. An expensive two year consultation involving the government's scientific advisors concluded that 127 marine protection zones (MPZs) would be needed to stop the decline. Unfortunately, environment minister Richard Benson rejected scientific advice and established only 31 MPZs.

Native sea life at risk includes oysters, black bream, spiny lobsters, lagoon sand shrimps and short-snouted seahorses, according to Jean-Luc Solandt of the Marine Conservation Society. A healthy sea that allows these creatures to thrive will benefit Britain's economy, justifying any expenses made to establish MPZ. Marine scientists and wildlife trusts are disappointed by officials' lack of ambition in this area. We respectfully urge you to take the recommended actions to save your sea life.
