Del Taco

Del Taco attempts to be vegetarian friendly with it's no-lard beens made fresh every day, but did you know that the large tortillas contain an ingredient called L-Cysteine. It is called a dough softener, and it is used for many mass produced doughs, however, it's origins are enough to ruin the 'vegetarian/ no pig' part of religously/ethically restriced diets .

L-cysteine is made from three sources, duck feathers, human hair or hog hair.    While according to the FDA, these are not considered 'meat', so they can be  buried deep in the ingredients lists, fooling many people into thinking a bean burrito does not contain any animal by-products.

There are vegetable based versions of the dough conditioner, but as always, price is the main concern, since the hog/duck/people amino acid is much cheaper than the vegetable based option.

Del Taco has always provided options for non-meat eaters, regardless of their reasons for their diet changes, and i think are one of the responsive fast food companies in the US, and I think this will be an easy change to assist your customer's with their restricted diatary needs.

So, the main point is, Del Taco, please change your ingredients to a more vegetarian friendly option, and create religious/spiritual/ethical options for your customers.
