The right-wing culture war against LGBTQ+ Americans took a deeply dystopian turn with the passage of SB43 in the Arkansas Senate, which classes drag shows as "adult entertainment" and bans anyone from "exhibit[ing] a gender identity that is different from the performer's gender assigned at birth using clothing, makeup, or other accessories that are traditionally worn by members of and are meant to exaggerate the gender identity of the performer's opposite sex."
The bill is so loosely worded people are afraid it might extend into people's homes and even ban men from playing female parts in plays and vice versa.

But its true intention is to keep any person from expressing their true gender identity out of the public eye and enforce a heteronormative, religiously-based conception of gender on the state of Arkansas in direct contradiction to the freedoms this nation is supposed to stand for.
"The truth is, this bill is not about governing…It's about bullying," said Democratic Sen. Clarke Tucker. He's absolutely right. This is yet another bigoted Republican bill that exists solely to institutionalize right-wing conspiracy theories about LGBTQ+ Americans and terrorize the most vulnerable members of our society.
