A company from Birmingham, Alabama, Twin Pines Minerals LLC. and the Army Corp of Engineers is wanting to strip mine less than 4 miles from the Okefenokee Swamp Refuge. Which can be possibly detrimental to the environment and ecosystem of the swamp which spans 700 square miles. The mineral in which they are wanting to mine is Titanium Dioxide, TiO2, which is possibly carcinogenic to humans when inhaled in the air. Also, with the rivers that flow in and out of the swamp, the rivers lead into the gulf and Atlantic. In which the runoff from this strip mine into the water table could be also a major health issue as well.
PLEASE sign this petition no matter where you are from to help say NO to this strip mine of our beloved Okefenokee Swamp which is the home to thousands of animals and plants. Also, the endangered species of the swamp too, whom need our protection.
