Are American Unions IN IT TO WIN IT?

I'm starting to wonder if Unions are doing anything to help the people they represent? Are they really in it to win it or just soak up money. I don't see union recuiters anymore, now the recuiters ask employees on their job to secrtly pass the to others. Putting the employee at risk for being fired.

I remember the old days when recuiters passed out flyers and petitions themselves to get new members or start a union at a new work place. Have union recuiters become that lazy. If so, how much representation will people get?
