More than 1,300 people are dead and hundreds more are missing in four South Asian and Southeast Asian countries after a brutal cyclone and tropical storm swept through the region. On just one island in Indonesia alone, more than 700 people are dead, with more than 500 still missing. Upwards of 3.2 million people have been impacted.

Not only have people lost their own lives, or their loved ones, or their homes, but survivors are also currently facing a possible starvation crisis. Rescue workers are racing to provide food to the embattled region, but it's still not enough.

Monsoon season is often known for heavy downpours and powerful storms that can cause landslides and flooding. But this year, it's worse - and it's easy to guess that this is likely because of ever-worsening climate change.

Communities in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia have been devastated by this combination of storms that plowed through their homes. Whole buildings have been submerged in the floods. Authorities have rushed to evacuate over one million people.

Now displaced and traumatized, survivors are continuing to face even more challenges. In addition to homes being destroyed and power lines going down, food supplies were also swept away or ruined. Hundreds of thousands of families are unsure how to feed themselves and their children.

Local charities as well as the World Health Organization are trying to fill in the gaps, but they need more help.

Leaders of wealthy, industrialized nations and leaders of the most-polluting countries - like the U.S., the E.U., Russia, China, and India - need to step forward and pledge assistance for the victims of these storms! Sign the petition!
