Hidden cameras at Albyns Farm in Essex captured workers kicking cows in the face and body, punching and slapping them, twisting their tails, and burning one animal's face with a cigarette. An animal welfare expert who reviewed the footage counted more than 600 separate instances of avoidable pain and distress inflicted on the herd.
This wasn't a single bad moment. It happened again and again, over months, to animals who had no way to escape it.

The footage showed cows flinching, running in fear, and slipping on floors as they were yelled at and struck. Calves were dragged by one leg away from their mothers. Cows with distended, painful udders were hit and kicked in that exact area. One animal too weak to stand was lifted by a tractor.
Tesco and Müller have suspended the farm, and the Crown Estate says it is looking into what happened. But suspensions can be quietly lifted once public attention fades, and investigations often end with a warning instead of real change. A farm capable of hundreds of instances of cruelty should not get a chance to prove it can behave once cameras are watching.
Cows cannot speak for themselves when they are hurt behind closed doors. The Crown Estate should end its lease with this farm for good, and Tesco and Müller should permanently remove it from their supply chains, sending a clear signal that no amount of profit is worth this level of suffering.
