Petition Etsy to offer UPS in the U.S.and Canada

Etsy sellers in the U.S. currently have the option of shipping their packages with either the United States Postal Service (USPS) or with FedEx, but are being denied the option of shipping with UPS or other providers. Etsy sellers in Canada have the option of choosing Canada's postal service or FedEx, but not UPS. Due to recent events and the controversy surrounding FedEx and their support for the NRA, many sellers would prefer to have more choices when it comes to shipping their orders. For an Etsy seller to ship a package with the UPS or another provider however, they are at a loss for time, effort, and money putting them at a distinct disadvantage for protesting FedEx. Etsy receives discounted rates on shipping with FedEx which Etsy sellers are able to take advantage of to be more competitive in the market. An individual opening their own private account does not receive comparable pricing acting alone.

 To purchase a shipping label from UPS to fill an order on Etsy, each label must be created individually, the address must be entered manually, and the tracking information must then be entered into the Etsy system once the package is shipped. The combination of the additional time and costs involved provides FedEx an undue amount of influence on the Etsy sellers decision when selecting a shipping provider. Etsy sellers in America, Canada, and around the world deserve more choices than they are currently presented with and this petition has been created with the intention of providing more freedom of choice for all of the Etsy sellers in America and beyond.


Etsy sellers are a diverse group of individuals with a myriad of interests, beliefs, opinions, and political views. Many Etsy sellers may wish to continue to ship with FedEx even when presented with additional options, but all Etsy sellers should support the effort of this petition to provide more options for shipping from our Etsy shops. With the goal of encourage competition between the shipping providers for the rates offered to Etsy sellers to earn our business, we know the successful implementation of these recommendations will make Etsy stronger as a platform and more attractive to potential buyers and sellers alike. We, as Etsy sellers, should be able to select which of the shipping providers we support and have that information available to buyers before making a purchase. Etsy customer's deserve transparency and a greater voice when purchasing. To improve the platform, the customer should be presented with the option of selecting the shipping provider, from the list of shipping providers which the individual seller supports, prior to making a purchase to avoid confusion or dissatisfaction.

We support giving Etsy sellers and Etsy shoppers more freedom to support the handmade and vintage sellers of America in the way they prefer. As customers, we encourage you to message your Etsy seller prior to making a purchase if you have any questions about the shipping providers they support and/or the method of shipping that will be used to ship an order. It is important to remember that Etsy allows anyone to own and operate their own e-commerce store regardless of political viewpoints as long as the products and services they offer fit into the categories of handmade or vintage products and that Etsy's primary responsibility is to provide a safe and secure online platform for buyers and sellers to meet and to transact business dealings with convenience. The current system allowing Etsy sellers to choose FedEx or to use their own personal UPS accounts denies impassioned sellers the opportunity to both be competitive and to support their ideals.

We recommend no action be taken against FedEx on the Etsy platform, but we are requesting that the option to select UPS or additional shipping providers be added. Increase competitiveness and promote the free expression of the ideals of Etsy buyers and sellers alike, sign. My name is Jason and I'm the Shipping Support Specialist with Etsy. As you noted, we currently only support USPS and FedEx shipping labels for eligible sellers in the US. We're always striving to improve the products we offer, and would like to include more shipping providers in the future. I can see why including UPS as an option would be helpful, and I'd be happy to include this suggestion in our next report. While we can't act on every suggestion we receive, we've made many changes to the site and added new features based on feedback from Etsy members like you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
