Justice and Freedom for Michael Robert Petty

Michael was convicted in Riverside County in 2007 at the age of 19, charged with numerous crimes and being part of a criminal street gang "Fight Club". Michael in 2006 made a few poor choices and was hanging out with the wrong people and he became addicted to presciption medication and gambling.  He was arrested after an armed robbery when a friend turned him in and Michael admitted to his involvement. He was then, on several occasions, interviewed by MVPD & DA's office who coerced information from Michael and then used this info against him. The Da's office along with the MVPD Gang Task Force decided to take his information and use it against him and another 11 young men naming him as a leader. Michael was charged to the maximum sentence, 19 years, 8 months, for his first crime, having  never once being in trouble with the law previously. All 11 young men were coerced to take Plea Deals rather than go to trial, where they were told at arraingment they would recieve much tougher sentences from the Judge if they didnt work with the DA's office. Michael has worked very hard the last 6 1/2 yrs to become the man he is today and actually was before his arrest and incarceration in 2006. He has grown into a gentle young man who has participated in Alcoholics Anonymous while incarcerated, along with completing his AA.  While incarecerated he helped many other inmates reach their goals of completing their GED as well. He hasn't been in trouble behind bars he has kept a job while incarceration since the first month. He hasn't been in the general population for his own protection because he won't admit to gang status which makes him a target.

We believe Michael has served enough time in prison and his family needs him home and he needs to be home so that he can start a life at the age of 26 rather than 36 in ten years  when his release date is. Who will he be in 10 years and what would he do for a job? Today he could still get a job and be employed as soon as he is released.

Please help support our effort for an EARLY RELEASE he deserves to be punished, just not for 19 years, 8 months.

Dear,
Mr. Jerry Brown California Govenor
Mr. Paul Zellerbach  Riverside County DA
Mr. Jeff Van Wagoner Riverside County Assistant DA

Please Read our petition and review Michael Robert Petty's Crimal sentence.  Michael has earned his due time for his sentence to be reviewed, he has shown exemplary attitude and behavior while incarcerated since 2006 carrying a job the whole time along with attending college where he has taught himself and helped other inmates complete their GED. Michael was arrested along with 11 other young men, all whom have served time in prison from Plea Deals. Michael Plead to 19 years, 4 months with 2 strikes at 85% with the encouragement from his attorney at the time. (We as parents din't want him to sign to Plea) we believe he was over sentenced.  Other inmates with like crimes or worse don't recieve the sentence Michael recieved. We are asking that his sentence be reviewed and re- evaluated Michael has worked hard while incarcerated to change the wrongs he made by always making good choices. He is 27 years old now and has grown into a great young man (not like he wasn't before) son, brother & uncle to his niece Avarey whom has visited since birth she is now 5. Please give Michael the benifit of doubt and look over his sentencing. Review his sentence and please reduce his time.
