Force Global News & Shaw Media To Return Screen Formatting To Original Size & Format

Three weeks ago Global News decided to make a hefty change that affected everyone right across Canada, affecting every market by reducing the size of their broadcast image on television screens by as much as 50%, and replacing it with more advertising space to its viewers. The majority advertiser in this space is Tim Hortons.
Not only has this decision reduced the overall image which you now see on your screen, it has also reduced the font size in the ticker below the image which often carries scrolling messages of other news content. This model of reduced screen space was also released late last fall on regional channels know as BC1, AB1...etc. depending on what province you lived in. Since it failed to get the anticipated viewership under this new scheme, Global/Shaw decided to roll this over directly on to everyones main Global channel in a forced attempt to get people to see more advertising and less screen space. With no option for the paid subscriber to OPT out of this service, the consumer has no choice, or to move to another news source.
Global News Vancouver was reached for comment on two occasions for comment regarding this change. Each response was quite different. The first response provided a canned response stating they appreciated your feedback, and offered the explanation that viewer demand was responsible for the change to see more content in the same space, and thank you for your email. All signs on every level of social media contradicts that explanation.
The second response said we thank you for your feedback, Global News will not be switching back to its original format. Thank you very much. Thats it, thats all!
Here lay the problem and the oversight by Global News and Shaw Media and what they have not taken into account when they decided to force this change.

1- Senior citizens at home with poor or limited vision can no longer see portions of the display due to its reduced size.
2- Senior citizens who live in group homes, nursing homes, hospitals with limited vision, or due to distance from televisions can no longer view the screen content.
3- Any public televisions in Banks, Schools, Airports, Public Spaces, arena's, bars, hotels are also affected, and people with any amount of limited vision cannot see, read or view content based on its reduced display.
4- Persons who have purposely purchased extra large Smart TV's, Large TV's in order to get a larger view, have now had their onscreen viewing content dramatically reduced by 50% with no choice to opt out of these changes.
If people wanted the extra information as indicated by the written responses provided by Global & Shaw, making it available was already accomplished and provided on an alternate news channel should have been enough.

Paid subscribers have been given no choice, no alternatives and no ability to voice their displeasure with this change. Viewers have been quite verbal on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram about the changes and even included snapshots of the reduced viewing screen on social media. Global & Shaw have decided no further comment is required on this issue, other than providing canned email responses.

With your voice, your opinion, together we can proceed with a formal complaint with the CRTC and have Global either return the previous viewing area back to its original size or allow PAID SUBSCRIBERS to OPT OUT of this change. You pay your cable bill. You pick your channels, why shouldn't you be able to pick your viewing size. NO other carrier or Telco has ever done this before.
Do you want your screen to look like the preview channel on the TV Guide, or do you want the full viewing pleasure of the TV you purchased on your TV screen?
