Release the Director's Cut of Batman Forever

To those of you concerned,
I, the undersigned, am calling upon Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. to release the 160-minute director's cut of Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever.

After the release of Batman Returns, it became clear to Warner Bros. that the franchise wasn't selling well with kids. So they sought to lighten up the franchise by moving Tim Burton as producer and bringing Schumacher to the directing chair.

During production, Schumacher had shot up to 2 hours and 40 minutes of footage, but WB executives butted in and demanded heavy cuts before release. This resulted in the loss of a brilliant storyline involving Bruce Wayne having repressed memories of an aspect of his parents' death he hadn't faced before: the Red Book (his father's diary).

This subplot explains why Bruce quits as Batman in the film, as he is overcome with the guilt that he's responsible for the death of his parents.

Unfortunately, this was all swept away in a torrent during post-production, and what we got was nothing more than a campy mess.

It's truly a tragic tale on what certain box office undoings can do to sequels.

Which is why I'm writing to you all, the fans of DC Comics and the Batman franchise. I want you to join my campaign to get the director's cut released on DVD and Blu-ray.

What came of Batman Forever is not the fault of Joel Schumacher, nor is it of DC. It is merely the fault of Warner Bros. and the troubled production of the film. A film that had a lot of potential, all of which was swiftly squandered away in the end

With your help, Schumacher's true vision will finally be realised, and we can all put this whole thing to rest.
