Save Marine Wildlife From Fracking!

Big gas companies like to frack. It saves time and money by fracturing the earth's crust and extracting gas the easy way. The rest of us, who recognize that fracking is an environmental disaster wherever it occurs, are often left with damaged soil, depleted wildlife, and even water that ignites into flame when it runs from the tap.

The Santa Barbara Channelkeeper is justifiably outraged that 23 permits for offshore fracking and acidizing were doled out in the Santa Barbara area. The potential danger to wildlife is tremendous. Fish, sea and shore birds, seals, otters, whales, and dolphins are among the many life forms that will be put in jeopardy if this fracking occurs. Please join me in asking the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement to protect the Santa Barbara channel and prohibit fracking there.

Dear Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement:

Fracking is an environmental nightmare. It damages soil, poisons water sources, and creates unsafe communities where ever it is practiced. The fracking that is being permitted off the coast of Santa Barbara is particularly noxious. You are letting big gas companies exploit a common resource--the ocean--and potentially destroy the wildlife and seafood that exists there. Please reverse this course of action. I beg of you to protect the Santa Barbara channel and prohibit fracking there.
