Legalise Cannabis in the UK for medicinal uses

I want the cannabis to be decriminalised in the UK for medicinal uses to help people suffering from chronic pains and anxiety. Why should people suffer? Cannabis is proven to be safer than alcohol and tobacco. So why should the drug be illegal? To me, it makes absolutely no sense that you are able to by alcohol and tobacco over the counter whilst it is more dangerous than cannabis.
