Make Medical Marijuana Treatment Easier on Parents in California

Imagine having a child with severe epilepsy, the kind of disorder where dozens of potentially life threatening seizures happen in any given day. Now imagine that your child is not allowed to have their medicine at school. That's some parent's reality in California.

Even though marijuana is legal for both medicinal and recreational purposes in the state, federal law doesn't allow for cannabis on school campuses. Which is fine for regular students, but not ones who require it for their health and safety.

A bill that would allow students to use their medical marijuana on school campuses is on Jerry Brown's desk. Sign the petition to urge him to sign it already!

The way this actually works for parents is that they must come to their child's school every day, check them out, bring them off campus to administer this medication. These are the kind of parents who are already severely restricted due to their child's disability. Why not make their lives easier since we can? This bill would mean that the parents of children who require medical marijuana could actually leave their children at school all day!

The bill is so limited, that it really leaves no room for abuse. Schools would have to opt-in, which they could do if they had students who would benefit from this change. And it still wouldn't allow for vaping or smoking, just capsules, oils or edibles.

Essentially, there is no down side. Most of the children who use medical cannabis have autism, seizure disorders or cancer. If Governor Brown signs this bill, a bunch of students' and parents' lives are going to get a lot easier in California.
