There's nothing more relaxing on a nice day than taking your dog for a walk. It's especially nice when you can stop at an outdoor cafe along the way for a drink and a snack and to chat with friends.
Unfortunately, most Californians can't enjoy this simple pleasure. The California Retail Food Code prohibits live animals at dining establishments, even in outside areas, and even if the restaurant owner wants animals there.
This regulation is unfair to business owners and pet owners alike, and there is no sound reason for it to exist. A diner who doesn't like dogs can eat indoors or choose a restaurant where the owner doesn't allow dogs. Many consider their dogs a part of their family, and dining with them outdoors gives them a chance to rest during their walk and socialize with other dog owners.
Thankfully, a new bill would allow restaurant owners to open up their outdoor areas to dogs if they choose. Please sign the petition to convince the California State Legislature to pass this bill into law!
