I am a Russian who has grown to feel enormous discomfort due to the way my compatriots and I are depicted in modern Call of Duty games. Over the years, these games have consistenxtly portrayed Russians as mindless, evil terrorists, devoid of morals. This is not the Russian reality nor our identity. This stereotype is not only deeply flawed but also harmful, as it contributes to hostile perceptions of Russians globally.

In the earlier installments of the Modern Warfare series, Russians were afforded a narrative that acknowledged their motives and rationale. This portrayal allowed for a nuanced understanding of the characters, giving them depth and complexity. It is a portrayal that we would like to see reinstated.

Consider the facts: video gaming is a highly influential medium, with over 2.7 billion gamers across the world in 2020 according to Statista. This influence carries a responsibility to avoid perpetuating harmful cultural stereotypes, especially those that contribute to prejudice and discrimination against certain communities.
