A dead dog was found inside a chain link kennel on a property in Bay Minette, Alabama. Fifteen more dogs were discovered nearby, many of them severely malnourished, confined to kennels with no access to food or clean water. Two puppies rescued from the property weighed only five pounds each, so anemic and full of parasites that rescuers had to carefully ration their food just to keep refeeding from becoming dangerous on its own. Someone capable of letting fifteen animals waste away while one died beside them clearly isn't in a place to safely care for another living creature.

Rescuers describe the puppies as critical, fragile, and in desperate need of specialized care just to survive the days ahead. A Dachshund pulled from the same property has a long list of health problems caused entirely by neglect. None of these animals had done anything to deserve what they endured. They simply depended on someone who let them starve instead.
A lifetime ban on animal ownership would make sure that never happens again. Mandatory mental health counseling offers a real path toward understanding and addressing what led to this level of neglect, rather than leaving the underlying problem unresolved.
These dogs and this cat deserved food, water, and basic care, and they were given none of it.
