Dear President Bush and Members of Congress,
I'm writing to urge you to take immediate action to correct the severe underfunding of our National Park System.
Our national parks are vital to our national heritage. From Mount Rushmore to Yosemite, from the Everglades to the Grand Canyon, America's finest leaders set aside these special places to preserve our history, our wildlife, and our culture.
Yet this irreplaceable resource is in grave trouble. A funding shortfall of more than $800 million every year has led to disrepair, a shortage of park rangers, fewer educational opportunities, and many other critical problems.
Your help is urgently needed. To give the parks the celebration they deserve on their 100th birthday in 2016, we must increase funding of the parks by at least ($250 million) in FY 2008.

As we begin a new year, please make adequate funding - and restoration - of our national parks a priority on your agenda.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
