Ontario: Stop Skin Cancer and Ban Indoor Tanning for Teenagers!
Indoor tanning causes cancer.
Grad season is a few short weeks away. This is the time of year when thousands of youth will be targeted by the indoor tanning industry to tan-for-grad. It is also the first time most teens will use indoor tanning.
Indoor tanning devices can emit ultraviolet radiation, a known human carcinogen, at levels that are five times stronger than the summer sun. Melanoma skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer for youth between the ages of 15-29, it’s on the rise and it is preventable.
British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI and Quebec have all passed legislation protecting youth from the dangers of indoor tanning.
The Skin Cancer Prevention Act was introduced in the Ontario legislature in March 2013. If passed, it would prohibit the use of tanning services by youth under 18. Sign the petition now and tell the government to ban indoor tanning for teenagers!
