Governor Walker: We Can't Just Drill Our Way Out of Alaska's Problems

Alaska's largest oil reservoirs are starting to run out of oil. And at the same time, developing new areas – such as the Arctic Ocean – pose too large of a risk of an oil spill. Do we want to destroy the lands and waters that make our state so special – just for a decade or two of profit?

Our economic problems won't be solved by simply drilling. Our state is at a serious crossroads, and the only certainty is change. World markets are changing, and nations are beginning to act to combat climate change.

We need our elected leaders to stop pretending that we can just drill our way out of our economic challenges.

It's time for Governor Walker and Alaska's leaders to prioritize the development of an economy which protects the clean air, lands and waters for us today, and for future generations as well. Now more than ever, investments in renewable energy, tourism, fisheries, education and other sustainable industries are critical to our future.

What will our state look like 100 years from now? We can't get distracted by our short-term problems while we chart a course forward. It's time for all of us to think long term, about the legacy we are leaving as Alaskans.

Sign and tell Governor Walker and our elected leaders that we can't just drill our way out of our state's problems! We need long term, clean economy solutions.
