The U.S. asylum system – which has historically helped tens of thousands of people each year escape persecution and find safety – is under attack.

Right now, the Trump administration is introducing new policies that deny safety to thousands of people who are desperate to escape violence and persecution. The new policies fly in the face of U.S. and international law, which both mandate basic protection for those seeking asylum. At the same time, the administration is detaining asylum seekers in jail-like facilities, separating children from their parents, and criminally prosecuting families seeking protection.

Each year, refugees and asylum seekers risk everything to come to this country. Many flee with little more than the clothes on their backs. Now the Trump Administration has made it that much more difficult for the few who reach our shores to find safety and freedom.
