Help women protect their forests in dryland Burkina Faso

Almost half the population of Burkina Faso are living in extreme poverty, and hunger kills over 40,000 children there every year. The majority of women rely on farming and foraging for basic survival – food and income – but forests are disappearing at an alarming rate.

Crops and trees are an essential source of food. But growing and gathering enough to the feed the whole family is often impossible. When crops fail, women are forced to cut down and sell the very trees they depend on to pay for food to survive.

TREE AID is training women to make money from trees without destroying them; we are teaching them to harvest produce they can sell at market. This training is ensuring women can earn a stable income to buy food for the whole family.

In one area of Burkina Faso, we are empowering women to restore their forests by planting 40,000 trees, and giving them the skills they need to protect it today and for the future.
