Help feed hungry children in Appalachia

When we think about child hunger, we often imagine countries across the world. But there are children right in our backyard who don't have access to food.

During the school year, many families across Appalachia — one of the most impoverished regions of the country — depend on school meal programs to help them feed their children. These free school meals allow Appalachian families to afford other necessities, like rent, clothes, utilities, and medical bills.

But when their children leave school for summer vacation, families living in poverty struggle to find ways to replace those missing lunches. In fact, 1 in 4 kids in Appalachia won't have meals this summer.

Here at the Christian Appalachian Project, we believe every child deserves three nutritious meals every day of the year. That's why we hold annual summer hunger programs, where children receive hearty and nutritious meals and are able to escape the harsh realities of poverty.
