ACTION ON AIR - Being the change
Stores that have air conditioners running in the summer, and keep their doors open, are wasting 25% of the energy they're using. We can't watch the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and think it's only the fault of BP. We need to cut back on our energy-reliance (until more environmentally sound sources of energy are abundant) and we need to make sure we encourage others to do the same.
So, sign the petition and make it your pledge to tell any shop you go into that has it's door open and it's air conditioner running that unless they keep their door closed you won't be shopping there any more and you'll encourage everyone you know to do the same.
I'm betting that we can make a difference.

We, the undersigned, are committed to tell shopkeepers who have their doors open while the air conditioner is running that we will not shop there until they close their doors. We will explain that they are wasting 25% of the energy they are consuming and that it is this kind of behaviour that underpins our reliance on oil. It's time to support energy-conscious, environmentally sound businesses.
