The Welcome Home Coalition believes cities and towns know what is best for their residents when it comes to regulating short-term rentals. The Massachusetts State Senate is about to begin their budget debate and could use that process to put forth a one size fits all plan that ties the hands of cities and towns from ensuring commercial developers don't abuse short term rental platforms.

The cost of living is on the rise, and renting a home or apartment on short-term rental sites can be a critical lifeline for Massachusetts residents. Extra money made from renting out their home or apartment can help keep residents afloat. But developers have also noticed how useful short-term rentals are, and they're cashing in on Massachusetts' properties by buying up homes where families once lived. Cities and towns should be able to protect themselves from commercial developers buying up homes and selling them as fake hotels. The Senate should not prohibit cities and towns from doing so!
