Women of color: Say congrats to VP Kamala Harris

First female vice president. The first Black and Asian American woman to hold the second highest office in the land.

It took more than 400 years of blood, sweat and tears to get here.

Countless Black women sacrificed everything. We stand on the shoulders of powerful women like Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan and so many others. And we stand alongside amazing women like Stacey Abrams and countless Black and brown activists and community organizers who helped ensure record voter turnout, protected the vote across the country and safeguarded our democracy.

If we're honest, Black women have been the most loyal voters and the institutional backbone for the Democratic Party for generations, which is why seeing a Black woman hold the second highest office means so much. Finally, Black and brown women are getting the credit they've deserved since the founding of this nation.

Still, the struggle isn't over.

The push for racial and gender equity isn't over. The work to end the maternal health crisis isn't over. The fight for fair pay continues. Women of color still face systemic racism and discrimination, which cause so many of the economic injustices and health inequities we see in our communities – inequities that the National Partnership for Women & Families works every day to eradicate.

So as women of color, let's join Black and brown women across the country and sign the National Partnership's card to congratulate Kamala Harris for achieving yet another first. They'll deliver the messages on your behalf.
