Greta Thunberg joined more than 600 activists from around the world in a fleet of approximately 40 aid
boats sailing for Gaza to deliver humanitarian supplies. But before they had even left their port in Tunisia,
multiple drones apparently attacked two different boats in the flotilla. The incendiary devices
caused parts of both boats to explode and burst into flames - though luckily no one was hurt.
The international community - especially the countries represented by these many brave activists - must immediately condemn these violent attacks against boats carrying humanitarian aid to starving civilians. specifically targeted, in an attempt to intimidate them and stop them from delivering life-saving aid.
While the attacks did successfully delay the flotilla from sailing to Gaza for nearly 2 weeks, it did not stop the overall mission.
The flotilla is carrying supplies that include
food, medicine, and baby formula. It is additionally carrying a number of high-profile
figures who are attempting to raise awareness about the importance of humanitarian aid. Around 4
members of Parliament from Italy are on board, as well as the former
mayor of Barcelona,
actor Liam Cunningham from Ireland, and Swedish climate activist
Greta Thunberg. Thunberg also took part in a flotilla that was intercepted in June, in which all individuals were
captured and temporarily imprisoned. The flotilla organization posted on Instagram: "We are pulling off the largest grassroots maritime mission to Gaza in history."
Sign the petition to demand that leaders of nations around the world speak out against attacks against the flotilla and ensure protection for good samaritans who help deliver humanitarian aid to Gazans!
