Please use your bully pulpit to protect the rights of us who believe in the United States Flag and that of which it represents.
The "Plegde of Allegiance" has been ruled unconstitutional by three of the nine 9th US Curcuit Court of Appeals judges in Sacramento, California. The three judges overturned a 1954 Act of Congress that inserted the phrase "Under God" after the phrase "One Nation" in the pledge. As we all know judges are not to make law.
The court determined the phrase amounts to a government endorsement of religion in violation of the Constitutions Establishment Clause, which requires a separation of church and state.
The case was brought to the court by a sacramento atheist because his daughter was required to be in the classroom when the pledge was being recited (the child was not required to recite the pledge herself) according to the various New Channels (keeping channels private for my own protection)
A Federal judge had dismissed this lawsuit. The atheist (keeping his name private for my own protection against a possible lawsuit as I am not sure if I can legally use his name) said "he doesn't want his right infringed upon", however, he is willing to infringe upon the rights of the millions of children (and parents) around the United States of America who want to keep this patriotic act. I agree anyone not wishing to say the pledge can just sit quietly while other children participate.I am quite sure the child of an atheist is not going to suddenly have a belief in a GOD just because he/she hears the pledge in school, so they have nothing to fear, we are not trying to change their belief system and don't want them to infringe on ours.
As taxpayers our monies support the public school system whether we have children in the public schools or not and it is my opinion that we should have some say in what goes on. We need to stop worrying about things of this nature and be more concerned with the quality of education our children are getting from the failing schools around the country.
If this ruling stands, what is next? Our Currency? Our Patriotic Songs, Our Preamble? This has to be stopped NOW.
