Sign the petition to Governor Gavin Newsom: Address racial and economic inequality for California's fast food workers.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has an opportunity to launch a landmark economic equity campaign for 550,000 fast food workers throughout the state by passing AB 257, the FAST Recovery Act. The bill would create a first-of-its-kind industry standards board that would bring fast food workers to the table with employers and regulators to improve standards for workers and the public.

By passing AB 257, the Governor would:
  • raise standards for fast food service workers in California - 80% of whom are people of color, 60% are Latino/Latina and two-thirds are women;
  • give local franchisees and workers the ability to hold multi-billion-dollar fast food corporations accountable for better workplace standards and public safety;
  • create an economic model that will uplift low wage, predominantly immigrant workers in the state;
  • connect policy to progressive values and show that California knows how to lead the nation with innovative solutions that tackle rising inequality.

Workers across the country are taking action to demand improvements from bottom-of-the-barrel employers like Starbucks, McDonald's, and Amazon. Across California, fast food workers have waged strikes at more than 300 locations demanding better pay and conditions.

Sign the petition to Tell Gavin Newsom to support AB 257 and support bold policy to address economic and racial inequality for the state's half-million fast food workers.
SUBJ: Support AB257

Dear Gov. Newsom,

California has an opportunity to launch a landmark economic equity campaign for 550,000 fast-food workers throughout the state by passing AB 257, the FAST Recovery Act. The bill would create a first-of-its-kind industry standards board that would bring fast food workers to the table with employers and regulators to improve standards for workers and the public.

By passing AB 257, California:

-Raise standards for fast food service workers in California
- 80% of whom are people of color, 60% are Latino/Latina and two-thirds are women.
-Give local franchisees and workers the ability to hold multi-billion-dollar fast food corporations accountable for better workplace standards and public safety
-Create an economic model that will lift up low wage, predominantly immigrant, workers in the state
-Connect policy to progressive values and show that California knows how to lead the nation with innovative solutions that tackle rising inequality.

Workers across the country are taking action to demand improvements from bottom-of-the-barrel employers like Starbucks, McDonald's and Amazon. Across California, fast food workers have waged strikes at more than 300 locations demanding better pay and conditions.

Governor Newsom, support AB 257, and support bold policy to address economic and racial inequality for the state's half million fast food workers.
