Miscarriage Matters to Mothers

Miscarraige Matters to Mothers is not about arguing terms of what to call the growth that lives within a woman while she is pregnant.  It is about those of us, who consider this growth to be life, hence our babies.

When we lose our babies before they are viable, it is called a miscarriage or spontaneous abortion.  Both of these words are hurtful to some women who have lost their babies.  By definition alone, miscarriage blames the mother for her role in the loss of her child.  Spontaneous abortion, albeit technically more suitable, evokes the same feelings of shock and outrage by some.

We propose the use of words such as 'gestational loss' or 'gestational cessation.'   If you support more appropriate terminology written on a mother's medical chart, please sign our petition and help us make others aware of our voice.

We the undersigned, believe that if a mother considers her unborn child a life, she has the right to object to the terminology of 'miscarriage' or 'spontaneous abortion' on her medical record.  We would like to see a word that represents all people, and not just those who don't believe it is life. Such as 'gestational loss' or 'gestational cessation.'
We ask for a dignified word that does not place blame or fault,  but dignifies our sense of loss.
Thank you so much for taking time to read this petition request.
