Save Brookfield's Kids From Sex Offenders

Brookfield's Board of Selectmen owe it to the community to establish child safety zones by banning registered sex offenders from certain areas of town before an incident occurs and a child is forever injured.

Schools, child care centers, parks, playgrounds and town beaches should be off-limits to registered sex offenders under an ordinance established by the Board of Selectmen and they should do so now with the blessing of the Town.

The ordinance should create a child safety zone in any place where minors are present and should allow police to issue tickets to registered sex offenders found loitering.

In late 2006, Danbury became the first municipality in the state to enact such an ordinance, which has been adopted by a few other communities, including Bristol. Brookfield is sorely overdue.  Greenwich did today.

We take chances no more. The Board of Selectmen should immediately establish and post child safety zones by banning registered sex offenders from certain areas of town.

The immediate safety of our communities children should be of paramount importance to the members of the Board of Selectmen and we ask that you move on this with all due haste before something terrible happens to one of our own.
