Don't Steal Mortgage Settlement Money

Several scandals surrounding Gov. Scott Walker's actions are painting him as a thief in the night. His latest "heist," is trying to make off with a big hunk of the recent mortgage bank settlement.

This money, says Wisconsin congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, was meant to help middle class homeowners defrauded by Wall Street banks, but now it looks like they'll be ripped off by the GOP as well.

Walker announced his intention to use $25 million of settlement money to "plug a gap" in the state budget.

If Walker does rip off homeowners, it won't be the first time his office has been associated with such activity. Last summer Think Progress reported he worked with campaign supporter MillerCoors to "pull a fast one" on the legislature and rob craft breweries of business. Further scandal surrounds several of Scott's former staff members accused of stealing from the public as well.

Tell Walker to keep his hands off the settlement money .
We, the undersigned, find it disturbing that you would take a big hunk of a settlement from the poor who've already been robbed at least once. Rachel Maddow calls your announcement to use $25 million of the Department of Justice mortgage bank settlement "highway robbery."

Whatever it's called, it sounds like stealing.

Of further concern are the numerous questionable actions occurring during your term, as well as those that happened before you even took office.

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin explained on the Rachel Maddow show that, as a result of the settlement, "Fraudulent lenders will have no blanket immunity from criminal prosecution...."

Neither should you.

The homeowners have been victimized more than enough.  Don't add to it.
We request you leave the settlement money to those for whom it is intended, and clean up your act or resign.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
