KIS MacBook Injustice
To whom is may concern of the Korea International School Administrative staff.
It has recently come to our attention, the KIS Student Body, that the School Staff intends to collect our MacBooks on this coming Friday, September the 12th. According to reliable sources, the Staff is doing this in order to install the new Mac OSX version: Leopard. However not only does the school intend to install an updated version of the Mac Operating System, but also spyware along with it.
This gravely concerns the students of KIS. While we students realize that such software is intended to ensure that we focus on academia at school, and is for our own benefit, we also realize that this is a significant violation of privacy.
These MacBooks were bought with our own money, not the school's. As such, we, the individual students of KIS are the sole proprietors of these computers. KIS has no right over these machines at all. Forcing us to buy these machines is enough as it is, but to claim ownership by forcing us to turn in these machines and installing software without our consent is simply ludicrous.
If the school wishes to upgrade our computers purely for the benefit of the student body, we urge you to allow us to install the new software at our own discretion and distribute the new OS on CD's or other such means.
The Friday turn-in date should only apply for those who consent to installing the software, and only after the Staff has educated us, the sole proprietors of these machines, about exactly what they intend to do and give us the power to change what software is installed.
Thank you.
