Labeling of waxed produce

As some of you may already know, it is common practice for food suppliers to wax some of their fruit and vegetable products. Waxes that are used include shellac (resin produced by Lac insects) and beeswax. People who choose to consume a plant-based diet have the right to know when plant products are waxed with an animal product. Changing the fundamental nature of a product (such as changing the fundamental nature of fruit by waxing it with animal products) without notifying consumers is unethical. We feel that it is time to challenge this industry practice, and request that all fruit or vegetable products that are waxed with shellac, beeswax or any other animal-derived wax are clearly labeled to indicate an animal-derived substance so that consumers can make an informed choice when purchasing products. Please add your signature to our demand for the labeling of waxed produce!
