Rebuilding Haiti Green

Why not rebuild Haiti using sustainable, energy efficient construction technology and building materials?
Why not employ out of work green architects, engineers and construction professionals to make sure the work is done right?
Maybe bring in organizations like the US Green Building Council to organize and oversee the work?
We The Undersigned believe that any governments contributing to the rebuilding of Haiti should back a program that would send unemployed people into Haiti to help rebuild, after the current water, food and medical crisis is handled.

The unemployed people picked should have green, sustainable construction as their goal.

Use unemployed green architects, engineers, construction professionals, etc. to supervise and train a Haitian work force in a variety of sustainable, green technologies.

Being unemployed would be a requirement for the job.

Maybe something along the line of the WPA?

Any money spent on materials and equipment should be on the most sustainable, cost effective products available.

This would also create much on the job training to advance the field of sustainable construction while helping rebuild a country into a much better one than before.

Why rebuild using the same old technology that has proven to not be up to the task?

We would be helping the Haitian people rebuild their country in an energy efficient and sustainable fashion plus train a new group of eco-builders.

Greensburg Kansas rebuilt green after a devastating EF-5 tornado leveled the town May 4th, 2007. http://www.greensburgks.org/

Greensburg's web page says it all - Greenburg: Better, Stronger, Greener!

Why not - Haiti: Better, Stronger, Greener!
