Dear Indian friends,
As we know, there is clear discrepancy between the fees charged for US Indians and that charged for Canadian Indians for the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) application.
While, Canadian Indians pay C$421, US Indians pay only US$ 275 for each OCI application.
Why Indian Consulate charging C$ 421 almost double of what is specified by the Government of India? Why this discrimination between US and Canadian Indians? Shouldn't we raise this issue?
We have given so many complaints regarding this matter. Even when Overseas Minister Vayalar Ravi visited Canada recently, we raised this issue before him. No satisfactry action has been received from anyone till date.
The Indian Consulate should follow the Government of India rules which clearly states that the OCI fee is US$275 and it should be equivalent to all local currencies (including Canadian). The exchange rate shows that Canadian Dollar is not equivalent to US Dollars; but it's little higher now. Still we are paying C$421.
Once the target number of signatures is reached, the pettion would be forwarded to the Indian Fedreal Minister for Overseas Indians, Consulate Generals of India, Indian High Commissioner, and to the relevent Government departments in Delhi.
