On June 15th 2009 two horses, Jezebel (an 8 year old HYPP N/H and symptomatic paint mare) and Tessa (a 9 year old rescued Thoroughbred mare) were seized by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control after the person their owner left in charge of their care while she was in Canada, stole feed, hay and generally starved them down to the point of emaciation. Their owner returned from norther Alberta, Canada sick with the flu was was unable to see her horses until May 31st 2009 when she paid an unannounced visit to the farm they were at. For two weeks she carefully measured and individually bagged feed and weight gain suppliments and hay cube lunches for her horses and created a feeding log that needed to be initialed when the horses were fed to help guarantee they were being fed the correct amounts of food a day. When the barn owner finally found out that she was moving her horses, they called Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control and had the horses seized. Their owner is still fighting to get them back and is now appealing the county civil court's decision to hold them plus make her pay $2,100.00 USD. There were no criminal neglect charges filed only a civil case for money and horses. And this judgment came even after their owner produced receipts proving she'd purchases hundreds of dollars worth of feed for these horses and a veterinarian saying the horses were in perfect weight and perfect health on April 24th 2009, just 4 days before their owner left for Canada. So far their owner has spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars filing appeals and filing court ordered subpoenas to help get her horses back. She's owned one horse for 8 years this coming August 16th (2009) and that horse is her best friend and helped her survive and get through the traumatic loss of her sister on 9/11/2001. This criminal seizure has left a family torn apart while the true criminal is free and has not been served with any penalty for what they've done. Please sign this petition to help these horses be immediately released to their true home! With so many countless unwanted horses being cast aside every day, why punish the ones who have a loving home and no doubt want to go home?! Our tax payer dollars should be put to better use! Especially in high tax Palm Beach County!
