Art as Advocacy. Saatchi, your constituency hopes that you will take the necessary steps to address this problem; if NOT you are passe and no longer relevant!!
Because art straddles the boundaries of all disciplines its imperative that artists have the capability within the framework of an online site to address the issues that concern our citizenry. For some artists, art is not merely a passive object of our veneration but a directive to instigate action. Therefore, Mr. Saatchi, I urge you to consider the scope of issues and mediums used by artists and host an online link for Art as Advocacy by giving artists access to address issues pertinent to their platform.
As you may well know, some art as advocacy issues are transient and require swift public awareness, whereby the delivery of the message that propels the public to action must be immediately sought, without delay. For example, collection of signatures for petitions is time sensitive and must be acted upon instantaneously; otherwise any time lapse in transmitting the message can compromise the intended outcome.
Hence, when petitioning our public, art must navigate toward artistic ideas that protest our common as well as our uncommon sensibilities; supplanting old and antiquated ideas with fervent ideas that engage society in the hope of transforming what is sometimes perceived to be an unattainable quest for change. Whether ambivalence or lack of impetus is responsible for hampering the initiating seeds for social transformation; it nevertheless remains the responsibility of the artist-advocate to insure that relevant social-political issues stay at the forefront of their craft and that organizations catering to the artist-advocate must also be made aware of the issues plaguing the artist so that they too can address the problem.
That is why, Mr. Saatchi, I am impelling you to ponder this urgent request and to kindly fulfill this well overdue Art as Advocacy link on the Saatchi Online site; insuring that the diversity of the artists and the mediums they use to communicate issues with the public will be assured equal access via a link by which information can equally be shared by all.
