Stop Petshops and Garden Centres From Selling Rabbits

There are over 33000 unwanted Pet Rabbits in Rescue Centres all over the UK. The majority of these Rabbits were bought on impulse from Petshops, often for a young child.
Once the novelty of a new Pet has worn off the Rabbit all too often becomes a nuisance and is consequently handed into a Rescue Centre or, even worse, released into the wild to fend for itself. The latter scenario will guarantee an untimely death.

The information about Rabbit health and welfare given at the point of sale in many Petshops is woefully inadequate. Rabbits should be neutered, vaccinated against Myxomatosis and VHD, kept in a large hutch with a run attatched and also have the companionship of another Rabbit.

Whilst retail outlets continue to add to the already over-run Pet Rabbit population the situation can only get worse. A ban on the sale of Rabbits from Petshops, Garden Centres etc will go a LONG way to rectifying the Unwanted Pet Rabbit situation.
