Tennis for the health of it!

  • I need Wake County and Apex voters to sign this petition to allow Robert Allen Gibson to teach / tutor / film / and do statistical analysis for anyone in the USA on personal property at 1425 Holt Rd Cary, North Carolina 27519 for free/ for a fundraiser/ or for a fee.

Robert Allen Gibson and his mother Deloris Lea Gibson have built one of the most modern tennis courts in North Carolina and they need permission from the people to run a small home business on their personal property.

There is no home business category for a Tennis Instructor, because of the expense necessary to create a facility. Few could afford to do it. So it has never been addressed as a possible occupation.

All aspects of the business would qualify as a home business if it were not for the Tennis Court size. The tennis court is using less than .02 percent of the total property most home businesses are not alllowed to use more than 25% of the home. No one will be using the home for this business. There will be no retail business conducted on this property. A tennis Instructor, is a teacher, a coach, a trainer, a baby sitter/Day Care worker, a mentor, tutor, a life coach, a consultant. Working with 1 to 8 players at time. This site is designed to work with no more than 5 players at any time to comply with day care requirements and to reduce traffic patterns in the area. Players would come over for 1 to 2 hours max. less time than most babysitters sit for. They would play in the back yard just like in home  Day Care the kids go out for receation time. During that time the students would be doing their tennis homework of putting in some of their 8,000 hours to play college tennis or 10,000 hours to play Professionally. They would be tutored in the correct way to hit the ball with fewer injuries much like piano teachers or voice coaches. They would be filmed to get them use to the cameras, an to help them build a positive self image as well as to document their progression like a home photography business. In the industry 80% of the players travel to and from the tennis court with out using the restroom or showers, both of which are not provided for at the Gibson's home, but would be required on a rezoned business property. The property is in the county on residential well and septic thus a problem for providing public facilities. We do have an RV available if it would be acceptable.

As for the location of the tennis courts, they are as far away from any houses as they can be. The courts are built to comply with the 2025 usage plan  for the property. Over 300' away and completely surrounded by trees. No one can see the Gibson house or court from any street. Just about all tennis courts are built in residential neighborhoods and are closer to houses and businesses than this court is.

Sound tests were conducted that verified that the noise produced by the ball machine and tennis players is less at the boundaries of the property than any of the other noises in the neighborhood including Dogs, Birds, Kids, Squirrels, Cars, Lawn Mowing Services, Garbage Trucks, Planes and Builders in the area.

Lighting for the court is another concern. Robert would like to let as many people as possible to play on this amazing court but most players need a place after school and work hours. To see and react to a 100 mile per hour serve or to do frame by frame videos, 1000-watt bulbs are required. Apex only allows 250-watt bulbs. Lighting experts have shown that all the light will be directed directly to the court and with the shields attached, no one would see a bulb and have direct lighting leaving the property like porch or flood lights, not to mention all the trees that are blocking direct light paths.

Hours of operations were also addressed from 8:00am - 10:00pm lights being on 2 to 3 hours per night (maximum) if approved. The site would be accessed by appointment only, no drop in or private rentals. In addition, the site would always be closed on Sundays.

Tennis is a lifetime sport and it is one of the best sports for your health and the health and strength of future generations. With the work force getting older, I would like a job that will allow me to share my talents and knowledge with our community. My grandfather lived until he was 99 in the West Virginia Mountains and was moving rocks from one end of the garden to the other until his late 80's. I would like to be playing and working at tennis until my late 80's on my private tennis court. You can make that happen by signing this petition and supporting life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

We the undersigned believe that Robert Allen Gibson should be allowed to teach / tutor / film / and do statistical analysis for anyone in the USA on the property at 1425 Holt Rd. Cary, North Carolina 27519 for free/ for a fund raiser/ or for a fee.  We also believe that Wake County and Apex officials should work with the Gibsons to accomplish a final site plan of 2 Indoor courts not to exceed 25% of their property.

for your support and assistance
