Don't Nominate Larry Summers as Fed Chair

Failed Harvard president Larry Summers paved the way for the Great Recession by blocking tougher regulations on derivatives and collaborating in dismantling Glass-Steagall and other consumer protections when he was Clinton's Treasury Secretary. If the White House makes Larry Summers their choice for Federal Reserve Chair, Wall Street wins again.

Larry Summers famously asserted the “girls aren’t very good at math” argument before Congress in 2005. The natural choice for Fed Chair nominee is Janet Yellen. But, you know. Girls, math.

Dear President Obama,

With candidates that are more eminently qualified to chair the Federal Reserve, we the undersigned ask that you not appoint Larry Summers for the position. Appointing Mr. Summers for the chairmanship tells the American public that they are not respected as consumers, and that well-qualified women should be passed over for jobs where mendacious, misogynists like Larry Summers are vying for the same spot.

We trust that you will do the right thing.

Sincerely,
