Keep McCoy Four Lanes

The McCoy Road "road diet" solves a problem that does not exist.

  • The City collected no bicyclist counts before recommending removing two lanes of traffic that support 8,500 vehicles on average every day.
  • The City has done no studies on the intersection delays and increased dangers at four cross streets including Greensview Drive.
  • The City's desire for an east-west bicycling connector between Scioto River and Olentangy Bike Trail can be done safer with existing bike lanes on Lane Road.
  • The proposed McCoy Road bike lanes will not be used even if installed (as shown by the non-use of bike lanes on Tremont Road after its "road diet" was done in 2016).
  • The 2018 Parks and Recreation survey in support of "walking and biking trails" is not support for "bike lanes."
  • City's survey failed to offer third option of sharrows. Sharrows are a safer because bicyclists can use an entire vehicle lane rather than a narrow bike lane; sharrows keep street parking that is used year round by residents, St. Andrews Festival, and OSU Golf events; sharrows are already in place on Reed Road.
