Support the release of Robert Cox

I am fighting for my release and need your help to do so. Your support of this pettion will express to persons of the Lousiana Pardon Board that I should be released by time computation.

My name is Robert Cox. I am a 35-year-old male, serving a 35 year sentence for Armed Robbery and Attempted Second Degree Murder at Dixon Correctional Institute, Jackson, Louisiana. I have been incarcerated for approximately 14 years. I am requesting your petition of support in lieu of pardon (time computation) before the Louisiana Board of Pardon and the Honorable John Bel Edwards, Governor. I will be as transparent as possible in this bio in hope of securing your signature in support for release.

No words can describe my sorrow for the poor choices I have made in this life that has led to a sense of self-destruction and victimizing the gentlemen who went through this whole ordeal. Today, and probably forever, I will be faced with the haunting of my past mistakes, and for this, in my heart, I have asked God and the victim for forgiveness, as I have forgiven myself.
First and foremost, there is no logic to explain what I did regarding the nature of my crime (Armed Robbery and Attempted Second Degree Murder). It was surely the stupidest thing I have ever done. At the time, I was an ignorant 19-year-old boy with only a 7th grade education, and an incomplete Welding trade. I was in a teeter between the street life and the right way of living. Although I had attended the best private school (Houma Christian Academy), in Houma, Louisiana, I had been on a downward spiral since my transfer to public school and relocating into its heavily drug infested neighborhood. With no more father figure, the street life and drugs soon seemed normal.

I was sentenced to 35 years of hard labor within the Louisiana Department of Corrections. This event changed the direction of my life. I cannot fathom your support in this petition; however, I appease you to look beyond what appears, and allow me to share my rehabilitation progress. I have committed myself to helping others upon release, just as I am currently engage while incarcerated. I believe to whom much is given, much is required, this is why I invest my time in prison by helping people through my job, as writer of the prison magazine for the past eight years, through Hospice volunteering, Substance Abuse Peer Facilitator and completion of every self-help rehabilitation class offered at the institutions I have been housed.

Your support in this petition will accompany my request for pardon in time computation. If released, I have secured employment, long enough to acquire equipment to start my own magazine. I believe this is my purpose, as I have spent each day preparing for my future. Your support will provide me with additional backing in favor of clemency. I know many of you may not know anything about me, but your mercy for second changes is most appreciated. For that, I am forever indebted for your kindness and help in this journey toward freedom and recovery.
