The undersigned are residents of Charleston County, South Carolina who are concerned about the negative impacts that proposed development at West Ashley Circle will have regarding flooding in the Church Creek watershed, and the associated loss of earthworks built by slaves 200-300 years ago.
Instead, residents signed here endorse the proposal put forth that the ONLY building to be constructed within the confines of West Ashley Circle would be a museum. The WEST ASHLEY CULTURAL APPRECIATION CENTER would be surrounded by a park setting, otherwise leaving the landscape of West Ashley Circle intact as it stands today, protecting the trees, the soil would not be disturbed, preventing further erosion into Church Creek, and creating a lasting resource for West Ashley for recreation, education, and appreciation of our history and unique culture, for future residents and visitors to Charleston.

The undersigned residents of Charleston County endorse the proposal made by Fereol de Gastyne, a resident of West Ashley, that a museum be constructed on the current site of West Ashley Circle. The proposed WEST ASHLEY CULTURAL CENTER would celebrate the unique history and culture of West Ashley, including the slave dikes, dams and reservoir on the site, 200-300 year old archaeological relics that will be destroyed if the proposed commercial development occurs. These citizens propose that the trees on West Ashley Circle remain untouched and the soil undisturbed, preventing the erosion and increased flooding of Church Creek that will otherwise inevitably occur. West Ashley Circle would become a park, a green space used for recreation, education, and appreciation of the unique history and culture of West Ashley, into perpetuity. The planned flow of traffic through West Ashley to future housing developments would not be affected in any way by this new plan.
